Bamford is a picturesque village three miles west of Rochdale and approximately 12 miles from central Manchester. Quaint stone-built cottages nestle alongside Edwardian mansions and more modern family homes.

The Bamford area remained predominantly rural until the Industrial Revolution when it became an international centre for textile manufacture. The cotton spinning mills have now closed, but the town maintains its industrial heritage.

Bamford has excellent amenities, schools, medical facilities and leisure, making it a popular choice for families.

Bamford is situated on the edge of the Pennines and has plenty of green space, rolling hills and parks to keep the family busy. There are many woodlands to explore. Turn a corner, and you’ll come across waterfalls and ruins of Victorian factories and mills. There are fantastic local walks at Naden Valley Country Park and Reservoir and Healey Dell Nature Reserve.

Bamford also boasts plenty of rugged, outdoor attractions. You can hike through Peak District National Park, encompassing or explore the fascinating Gawthorpe Hall, a Jacobean mansion with stunning gardens and intriguing history. Additionally, you can discover the world of textiles at the National Trust’s Quarry Bank Mill, a preserved 18th-century cotton mill offering insights into the Industrial Revolution and its impact on the local community.

St Michael’s Primary School in Bamford, which got the top mark in its last Ofsted inspection, is a draw for parents. There are several secondary schools and a sixth-form college in Rochdale for older children.

Junction 20 of the M62 to about a 10-minute drive from Bamford and provides easy road access to Manchester, Liverpool and Leeds. Regular trains run from Rochdale Station to Manchester Victoria; the journey takes 15 and 20 minutes. There are also direct trains to Leeds, Blackburn and Liverpool. Metrolink trams run from Rochdale and serve the surrounding area.
